The Orioles held a closed-door meeting for their position players Wednesday in an effort to talk their way through the team’s uninspired play in recent days. One source close to the team said that the meeting was meant to address some questionable decisions on the basepaths and to inspire the players to finish the season strong despite their record.
And then, after all the talking was done, the Orioles went out and lost another tight game to the Oakland A’s. Baltimore has gone 7-19 since the All-Star break, and 12 of their last 18 losses have come by two runs or less. The Orioles lost one baserunner on an attempted double steal Wednesday and almost had another picked off second base.
